Large lids (metal or plastic) can be disposed of in the recycling bin, if removed from the bottle, container or jar. Examples of large lids include jam jar lids and plastic ice-cream container lids. Small plastic lids (e.g. plastic bottle lids) and small metal lids (e.g. wine bottle lids and beer bottle caps) go in the garbage bin.
