Providing Australians with a free, easy and
environmentally accredited way to recycle printer cartridges
Why recycle printer cartridges?
Printer cartridges are made up of a complex combination of plastics, metals, foam, ink and toner. This means they cannot be recycled via your household recycling bin.
Throwing them in the garbage bin is a waste of resources. That's why Planet Ark teamed up with Close the Loop and industry leaders and manufacturers at Brother, Canon, Epson, and HP to set up the innovative Cartridges 4 Planet Ark program. This program collects and returns cartridges for remanufacturing and recycling—keeping them out of landfill.
The program, including its recycler and participating members, are independently audited on an annual basis for its zero waste to landfill guarantee.
About the program
Planet Ark wants to see a world without waste! Cartridges 4 Planet Ark is one pathway towards this future. By recycling used printer cartridges with our zero waste to landfill program, you're supporting a reduction in landfill and the reuse of valuable resources.

Small actions with BIG impacts
Some of the environment benefits of recyling your cartridges include:
- Diverting waste from landfill. More than 3,440kg of cartridges are diverted from landfill every day through the program.
- Recovering resources. Cartridges can be reprocessed or recycled to make new products from the plastics, metals and inks.
- Saving water and energy. When products are made from recycled materials, they will usually use less water and energy than making them from new materials.
